During the meeting which took place in one of the historic Churchill-era rooms, a number of matters were discussed by the two ministers. Starting the conversation, Coordinating Minister Airlangga shared the progress of important Indonesian-English cooperation such as the establishment of King College in Indonesia and the development of election results which lasted just one day peacefully.
The close relations between the two countries are marked by the agreement of the joint economic and trade committee (JETCO) which is currently partnering in 3 working group sectors.
Coordinating Minister Airlangga expressed his hope that JETCO would soon provide concrete results, including in the fields of energy and the digital economy.
Meanwhile, Minister Greg, who was accompanied by the British Prime Minister's special envoy for Indonesia, Richard Graham, who is fluent in Indonesian, expressed his deep impressions of the implementation of elections in Indonesia while comparing the same process in England.
Furthermore, by claiming that the UK has advantages and experience in clean energy, Minister Greg offered clean energy cooperation that is suitable for Indonesia as an archipelagic country.
The implementation of clean energy will later be linked to the management of subsidy policies. Minister Greg also hopes that trade in dairy products and their derivatives will be within the JETCO framework, which still has problems with registration because it takes a long time, apart from implementing Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS).
Regarding this issue, Coordinating Minister Airlangga emphasized that Indonesia is carrying out deregulation which emphasizes an easier mechanism for registering milk products and their derivatives.
This effort is to support the increasing demand for milk products and their derivatives with a new government program, namely free milk for students.
On the occasion of this meeting, Coordinating Minister Airlangga conveyed the impact of implementing British due diligence regulations for Indonesian palm oil products and hoped for fair regulatory treatment.
Currently, Indonesia is voicing its disagreement with the implementation of European Union (EU) policies on sustainable products. Indonesia and Malaysia are working on managing sustainability product regulations.
The two ministers also discussed the idea of free trade cooperation, Indonesia's accession as a member of the OECD and regional cooperation. Indonesia is ready to open free trade with England.
Responding to this idea, Minister Greg considered the importance of Indonesia's entry into the CPTPP where the UK had just joined. The British Prime Minister's special mission to Indonesia, Richard Graham, also discussed cooperation in the production of important minerals to encourage the battery industry.
Ending the meeting, Minister Greg invited Coordinating Minister Airlangga to see the place where world maps were stored when Churchill set strategy during the world war.
