Biden and Trump have different opinions about US military strength
US Presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump have both said that America needs a strong military. Biden said the US military was currently strong, while Trump said Biden had weakened the US military which he would rebuild if he became number one in the White House.

Speaking at the American Military Academy West Point graduation ceremony last Saturday (25/5), President Joe Biden said America had never asked the military to do so many things in so many areas at the same time.
“Today American troops support the brave Ukrainians defending their freedom. "Our troops are working around the clock to keep ammunition and (war) equipment from coming in by land, sea and air," Biden said.
America's military commitment also covers the Middle East region.
“The American Air Force has airlifted food, distributing tens of thousands of meals to Gaza residents. "In the face of Iran's recent, unprecedented attacks on Israel, we call on partners – including Arab countries – to repel (Iran's) further attacks," he added.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump said that Biden was actually leading the American military into an "unreasonably dangerous situation."
“Our country has been completely humiliated. We have a corrupt, infiltrated president, Crooked Joe Biden has dragged us into World War Three. This is what happened," Trump said.
Trump said Biden should not risk war with Russia and China. In a campaign video, Trump promised to position the American military in a foreign policy that always puts American interests first
“I would ask Europe to reimburse the costs of providing supplies sent to Ukraine, which they should do now, but Joe Biden is too weak and incompetent to make such a request.”
Biden said the American military is strengthening alliances and investing in deterrence efforts.
“Defend our values by taking a tough stance against tyrants, and (at the same time) maintaining peace, but also protecting freedom and openness. Thanks to the U.S. Armed Forces, we can do what we can as a nation, as the world's only superpower, and as the world's leading democracy.”
The U.S. Department of Defense said recruitment for the Army, Navy and Air Force in fiscal year 2023 missed targets by more than 40,000 people.
Trump said this because many people do not want to serve in the American military because of what he called – in quotes – “unfair policies and political purges.”
"I will restore the proud culture and honorable traditions of the American Armed Forces, and there will be no Marxism allowed, no communism allowed, and we will get rid of the fascists," he said.
The U.S. military says there are several reasons why the number of recruits is falling, including that improving economic conditions mean that young people have more options. Also due to the increasing distrust of institutions among Generation Z, who were born between 1997-2012.
